Presentation
AN ARCHITECTURAL RESEARCH PRACTICE
Artist: NINA VALERIE KOLOWRATNIK (Austria)
Thursday, September 29, 2016, 8 pm
Location: Boxing Club, Prishtina, Kosovo, organized by Stacion – Center for Contemporary Art

Within this presentation Kolowratnik will discuss two recent research projects on socio-cultural claims to land and property conducted in Israel-Palestine and together with a Native American pueblo in New Mexico. Thereby she will focus on the development of multiple spatial notational systems that are not only directed towards examining the terms of conflict, or giving conflict a new articulation, but attempt to dislodge the terms, assumptions, histories, social and legal codes around which the conflict is formed and narrated.

The first project represents a study and consultancy on evidentiary production methods within an Indigenous land claim in US courts and the difficulties presented to the tribe due to the organization of their culture around secrecy. The second project examines return narratives, images and possibilities of Palestinian refugees into today’ s Northern Israel, among other looking at what return to a place which has been deliberately overwritten will mean.

The presentation will end with a short introduction to the research Kolowratnik is currently conducting in the framework of her residency at Stacion – Center for Contemporary Art Prishtina, that focuses on the institutional response to alternative return practices and the complexities of property restitution claims in Kosovo.

ARTIST TALK
Artist: WOLFGANG OBERMAIR (Austria)
Wednesday, September 14, 2016, 7 pm
Location: GEM Klub, Skopje, Macedonia, organized by press to exit project space

Visual artist Wolfgang Obermair gives an insight into a field of activities he was engaged in the recent years. The focus lays on collaborative projects and other art related activities, that he sees as a way to develop a subjective practise towards a discursive situation between artists and the public. Obermair is interested in independent structures especially, if they enforce an alternative for the art itself. Part of the talk is a performative exercise he developed in a collaboration with the Czech artist Jakub Vrba within the residency.

ARTIST TALK
Artist: DENIZ SOEZEN (Austria)
Wednesday, 27 July 2016, 7 pm
Location: Public Room, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Deniz Soezen’s work explores themes of culture, location and language questioning the notion of identity and belonging. In the framework of the “West Balkan calling” residency in Sarajevo Deniz began to explore the question of belonging through an audio-visual research concerned with the five connected chapels/compartments at Bare Cemetery: Atheist, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim and Orthodox. The project intends to shed light on the region’s multi-faith history and explores our unity in death – the final migration.

In the artist talk, Deniz will present some of her recent projects, e.g. ‘Trans Angeles’ (an audio installation and artist book created following her residency in Los Angeles, 2014) and ‘Kahvehane (Coffeehouse) Kongresspark’ (2016), a pop-up café serving ‘Turkish’ coffee in specially designed cups as urban art intervention in Vienna. ‘Kahvehane Kongresspark’ included an interactive performance about the cultural history of coffee, developed in collaboration with Shane Shambhu, an award-winning choreographer, dancer and actor, initially trained in the Indian Performing Art of Bharatanatyam. Shane Shambhu, who has also been in Sarajevo, will also share some of his reflections and insight into his practice.

Dante Buu´s works are dealing with questions on private and public identities, looked upon the view of social, cultural, traditional, economic and political norms, which are defined by the mechanisms of power.
