T.I.C.A. – Tirana Institute of Contemporary Art / Tirana
T.I.C.A – Tirana institute of contemporary art is the first centre for contemporary art in Tirana. It offers a much needed permanent platform for Albanian and international contemporary art in Albania, and continuously attempts to reintroduce culture as one of the most effective ways in pushing for critical thinking in relation to our contemporary condition. By bringing together all the energies, knowledge and contacts of all its founding members and staff, it creates an independent platform for socio-politically engaged contemporary art.
The Tirana Biennale has been Albania’s most ambitious art event, produced by the institute. A.I.R. Lab international residency program is another important ongoing activity of the institute: It is the first structure in the country which supports the promising local artists and scene by enabling cross-cultural exchange in the Balkan region and beyond as a response to the lost communication that has led to a nationalistic misuse of culture.
T.I.C.A is an open forum for discussions and debates in support of a vital art scene on a more continuous basis. The institute supports artistic production, international collaboration and co-production, organises and implements diverse projects such as; exhibitions, film screenings and performance events etc. encouraging a stronger engagement in social, political and gender-related questions and concerns.
